Frankston Line South East Melbourne

Size: 2,300 m2
Architect: Cox Architects

As part of Melbourne’s Level Crossing Removal project, efforts are underway to eliminate outdated and potentially hazardous level crossings while also planning for the construction of new rail stations. The primary goals of this endeavour are to enhance safety, alleviate congestion, and improve overall transportation efficiency along the Frankston Line.

In 2022, the Edithvale, Chelsea, and Bonbeach stations were successfully opened to the public. These newly developed railway stations, masterfully designed by Cox Architects, showcase an impressive integration of modern technology, improved accessibility, enhanced mobility, and an aesthetically appealing design. Drawing inspiration from the coastal region’s ambiance, the facades of the three stations were adorned with sandstone-coloured concrete skin panels.

These panels, constructed from robust and slim glassfiber reinforced concrete elements measuring just 13 mm thick, offer numerous technical advantages. They possess a lightweight composition, exceptional durability, and ease of handling during the installation process.
